What to Do if Your Check Engine Light Comes On?
Check engine lights come on for things as trivial as loose gas caps or as serious as failing catalytic converters, but they offer little in the way of details to distinguish one from the other. The “gas cap fix” is always a good place to start when your check engine light first comes on. Surprisingly, loose or damaged gas caps are one of the most common causes for a hybrid vehicle’s check engine light to come on.
When your yellow check engine light first comes on, as long as the light is solid and not blinking, you can pull over in a safe location and inspect your gas cap. If it is loose, tightening the gas cap could very well solve your problem. If it’s broken or damaged, head to your local auto parts store and purchase a new one. If you’ve already tried the “gas cap” fix, you should bring your vehicle into our hybrid service center to be properly diagnosed by one of our ASE Certified Hybrid technicians.
Don’t be fooled by shops or big franchise chains offering to run “FREE” tests to get error codes for you. The error codes that you receive may apply to multiple issues on your hybrid and the best Free Test technology can do is narrow it down to what and where it might be. Our hybrid technicians use proprietary cutting edge diagnostic technology to determine exactly what’s wrong with your hybrid. We own this technology and it is not available to our competitors. Our diagnostics will pinpoint the exact problem and your ASE Certified Hybrid technician will help you better understand what the problem is and what the most cost effective long-term solutions ar
